At the Vietnam - Brazil business forum held on July 5 in Brazil, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính attended and called for stronger cooperation in three key sectors: Agriculture; Science & Technology; and Mining & Processing. Joint coffee exchange and brand - A strategic move

Within the framework of the ongoing food security agreement, the two countries proposed to study the establishment of a joint coffee exchange platform and to build a bilateral coffee brand. This initiative aims to increase product value, strengthen international market presence, and create a transparent and efficient trading system.

Two - Way agricultural trade cooperation

The Prime Minister emphasized that both countries should further open their markets for each other’s agricultural products, highlighting their complementary strengths: “What Brazil lacks, Vietnam can provide; and what Brazil excels at, Vietnam needs”. For instance, while both countries grow a wide variety of fruits, their harvest seasons differ.

Concrete cooperation measures between Vietnam and Brazil include Vietnam exporting rice to Brazil to support food security, while Brazil will export beef to Vietnam. In addition, Vietnam will export seafood such as pangasius, basa, and tilapia to Brazil, further diversifying trade between the two countries.

Local agricultural production & processing - A new cooperation model

The Prime Minister proposed a new cooperation model focused on producing and processing agricultural goods locally to optimize value chains and enhance export efficiency. For example, Vietnam could grow rice and process it directly in Brazil, while Brazil could raise livestock and process meat in Vietnam. This approach would help reduce transportation costs and take full advantage of each country’s local strengths.

Conclusion

The plan for Vietnam and Brazil to jointly study a coffee exchange platform represents a strategic step - not only elevating their bilateral coffee brand, but also laying the foundation for transparent, efficient agricultural trade.

This is an ideal time for enterprises and organizations in the coffee industry to explore opportunities, connect, and proactively engage in these cooperation initiatives - seizing the chance for growth and global market expansion.
