Baconco Supports Clean Water In Saline-Affected Regions In 2024

The saline intrusion situation in the Mekong Delta
Recently, the provinces in the Mekong Delta have experienced severe saline intrusion, significantly affecting agricultural and drinking water sources for local residents. Understanding this, Baconco has joined hands to mitigate the effects of saline intrusion by sending clean water trucks to the Mekong Delta.
The saline intrusion during the dry season of 2023-2024 in the Mekong Delta (MD) became severe as the saline boundary pushed further inland compared to the average levels of previous years. According to experts, due to the influence of high tides and the Northeast monsoon, the salinity levels of rivers in the MD have surged since February 2024.
This year’s prolonged saline intrusion has led to significant impacts such as:
- 73,900 households lacking drinking water
- 1,232 hectares of rice being affected, with 43 hectares in Sóc Trăng completely damaged
- Fruit tree yields decreasing by 5-10%
Among these, the lack of drinking water is an urgent issue as water is essential for sustaining life for humans, livestock, and crops. The freshwater shortage caused by saline intrusion has become more severe with the unusually high heat and continuously rising temperatures this year.

Baconco’s clean water support for farmers in saline-affected areas
Amid the severe saline intrusion, many areas in the MD are facing prolonged water shortages, with no drinking water available. Traveling across the Go Cong Dong district, one can easily see dry canals, cracked soil causing crop damage, and long lines of people waiting until late at night for their turn to receive water aid.

In response to the timely relief actions of the Government, Baconco, along with various units, organizations, and charitable groups, has headed to the Mekong Delta to bring clean water to residents in saline-affected areas. Specifically, Baconco has provided clean water and 30L water containers in two districts, Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Đong in Tien Giang province, which are among the most severely affected by saline intrusion!
Baconco staff enthusiastically assisting the residents
“Here, everyone uses saline water! We have to endure it, but even the water we use is not enough! Because we are in a saline area! Hearing about water makes people very happy! Thank you very much to the men and women who came to support us. The people here are very happy!” shared a resident of Tan Phu Dong.

This shows that Baconco is not just a profit-driven enterprise but one that genuinely cares about the lives and essential needs of the people.
